In an article about the making of the movie In Production the writer says " ... and no conventional male lead would want to play the part of the predatory, amoral, possibly lonely David, the older man who seduces the young girl. (Peter Sarsgaard, who responded and committed to the script at an early stage, is a proper actor: he didn't seem to worry much about whether his character would damage his chances of getting the lead in a romantic comedy.)
Who does that remind you of? Of course, Peter Sarsgaard is Maggie Gylenhaal's husband. I wonder how much working with James affected Maggie's view of the kind of man she wanted as a life partner.
| You can only **** in so many ways you know. If I'm able to find a film that plays with some of that, then I like it. I'm game, always game. (James Spader interview) |

That is interesting! Maybe her former boyfriend was too wimpy for her. When she acted these things out with James, maybe she got excited! I know she had a crush on James because of that one article where she said that she was jealous if he spent more time with others on the set. All the photos I've seen of her filming with him, show her looking at him with this smiling adoring look. She went to find her own substitute for Mr. Grey, Peter Sarsgaard.
